Pauline Tomlin
I am and have been many things:
At first I was conceived and delivered in Leeds, Yorkshire England as ‘First born,’ daughter, sister, protector.
I grew into adulthood to become: Wife, Mother, Employee, Manger, Leader.
By fluke I became: Teacher
By design I endeavour to become: Writer & Performer
I am a 61year old, an Ex-Secondary School English teacher, Ex- Media professional, a mother of three, grandmother to one who has...
A LOVE OF STORY.
It all fell into place. The days spent during school holidays not ‘hanging’ with my sisters and their friends, but traipsing backwards and forwards to Burley Library every other day to return some tattered novel or other, or two, or three, or four that I had devoured in the days previous.
Afternoons spent completely rapt in some wistful stupor watching the likes of Bette Davis, Orson Welles, Lena Horne, Hattie McDaniel and Rex Harrison (The ghost and Mrs Muir is one of my favourites!), Cyd Charisse, Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly and let’s not forget the Nicholas brothers all spinning wondrous gossamer webs of fantasy, that I could escape into.
These were not just pubescent idling, it all made sense…
It explained my need to document and write; words, sentences, phrases and poems that sometimes haunt me, until I succumb and write out whatever lexical refrain is beating an incessant rhythm in my head.
And so today you find me…dreaming and hoping to combine that love of film and visuals with my love of story and to plays and screenplays that entertain and excite the world; that tell the stories of people like me (lest we forget), stories that connect us.
Here I am, for my sins doing my best.
I am a performer and writer and as such bringing Black, Older, Female, Northern narratives stories to life!
Using my words, speaking, singing, laughing and writing does.
I am Pauline Tomlin.
