Project Ricochet
Project Ricochet, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2010, is dedicated to advancing health equity, social justice, and community empowerment through innovative programming and strategic partnerships. Guided by the belief that resilient communities thrive when individuals are empowered to overcome barriers, Project Ricochet engages in initiatives that address the intersection of public health, education, and the arts.
The organization’s cornerstone programs include the Titan Financial Legacy, B-WOW! Leadership Program, and PR Health Initiatives. The PR Health program boasts the Barbershop and Beauty Shop Initiative, which transforms these cultural hubs into spaces for health promotion, community dialogue, and resource connection. Through partnerships with local businesses, such as WThe Lexington Academy of Barbering (The L.A.B.), Plumber’s Barbershop, Cultural Cuts Barbershop, Rashida’s House of Style Beauty Salon, Carolyn’s House of Style and Beauty Salon, Keeping It Fresh at Monica’s Beauty Salon, Well Groomed Barbershop Parlor, and The Business of Barbering Institute, this initiative focuses on reducing health disparities in underserved populations by providing accessible wellness services and fostering trust within the community.
Project Ricochet also leads groundbreaking efforts like the PR Health: Farm Rx program, a collaboration with Black Roots Farm that bridges agriculture and healthcare. This initiative delivers fresh, nutrient-dense produce to participants, promoting healthy eating habits to combat chronic conditions such as hypertension. Additionally, the Urban Art Collective provides a platform for cultural expression and empowerment, hosting exhibits like the “Hairitage” project, where participants celebrate their natural beauty and community connections through art.
Beyond these programs, Project Ricochet emphasizes youth advocacy and grassroots mobilization through a partnership with UK Prevent on a CDC-funded EMPOWER initiative, aiming to reduce flavored tobacco use in marginalized communities. With a vision of holistic community health and equity, Project Ricochet remains a driving force for meaningful, sustainable change in Central Kentucky and beyond.
