Hackathon powered by Therness
A 24-hour industrial tech hackathon: apply AI and data analysis to tackle real manufacturing challenges.
THERNESS HACKATHON is a 24-hour in-person event taking place at I3P, the Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico di Torino (Sala Agorà).
February 27–28, 2026
Teams of 3–5 students (you can apply individually or as a pre-formed team)
Total prizes: €2,000
Participation is free of charge.
What you’ll do
During the 24 hours, teams will work on a real-world challenge inspired by industrial manufacturing contexts, presented at the beginning of the hackathon. The technical challenge is structured around two complementary components:
1. Data analysis
Teams will analyze the provided data to extract insights, identify patterns or anomalies, and support their ideas with evidence. This may include data exploration, basic models, metrics, or analytical reasoning, depending on the team’s background and approach.
2. Graphical interface
Teams will design a simple interface to present the results of their analysis in a clear and intuitive way. This can be a dashboard, a mock-up, a clickable prototype, or any other visual representation that helps communicate insights and decisions effectively.
The goal is not a finished product, but a clear and convincing proof of concept that demonstrates analytical thinking, technical feasibility, and the ability to communicate results.
Teams are encouraged to clearly explain their assumptions, design choices, and trade-offs, as well as how the solution could realistically evolve in a real-world context.
Final deliverables (end of the hackathon):
- a 3–5 minute pitch, followed by Q&A
- a demo, prototype, or concrete proof of concept combining data analysis and interface design
- a GitHub repository or shared material is recommended, but not mandatory
Mentors will be available throughout the event to support teams on both technical and design aspects.
Each participant must complete this registration form individually.
Closer to the event, participants will be asked to reconfirm their attendance for organizational purposes due to limited capacity.*
Registration will close on February 20, 2026, or earlier if the maximum capacity is reached.
*Please note that submitting a registration does not automatically guarantee participation. If the number of applicants exceeds the available spots, registrations will be reviewed and participants will be selected based on motivation and overall fit with the hackathon.
