Welcome: Federica Rotondo &amp; Francesca BragagliaGuest: Giorgos Koukoufikis, Joint Research Center C7 Knowledge for the Energy, European CommissionIn recent years, social innovation has become a pervasive policy discourse explicitly promoted by the European Union in many domains to address contemporary issues. Although there is no agreed definition, many authors and EU documents agree that the concept of social innovation implies a new 'social pact' between governments and civil society, in a co-productive perspective. During the meeting, we will explore how the concept of social innovation is articulated to low-carbon and energy transition of cities. To do so, we will try to provoke our guest regarding his understanding of social innovation in relation to energy transition in light of a number of questions: is it a possible panacea, or is social innovation just a pretext to shift responsibility to citizens? Which possible implications for energy transition policies and practices? Which practices can be considered socially innovative in the field of energy transition?
