Dis-placed Attachment: climate migrants, built environment and feelings of place attachment

Welcome: Marco Alioni

This review examines the literature on place attachment and climate migration for a better understanding of the relationship between the built environment, climate migrants, and their feelings of place attachment. Through these perspectives, the discussion is centered around two fundamental discussions: forced displacement’s psychological and place-wise impacts on people and the role of environmental dimensions on the recent migration trends. The review reveals that although the experiences of different groups of displaced people are studied to some extent, the literature lacks an overarching discussion of climate migrants’ feelings of place attachment. As a result, the need for a better understanding of the built environment’s influence on climate migrants’ feelings of place attachment is justified. Most of all, an interdisciplinary approach on the overall experiences and integrations of environmentally displaced people is suggested.
