Data Science with Python

NOI SpA

Python can be used in many fields, starting from simple scripts to complex data processing tasks, signal processing, statistical analysis and artificial intelligence. It's simple syntax is easy to learn and results in clear and concise code. Combined with a mature ecosystem of tools and libraries in almost any field, Python has been steadily gaining interest in the scientific community. In these classes we'll learn how to use Python, starting from simple calculations and progressing towards a more in-depth understanding of advanced data structures and complex analysis capabilities. By exploring data from a microbiology study (the SERCA experiment), we'll learn how to use the major scientific packages in order to process, analyze, aggregate and visualize our results interactively.
 
Overview of the lessons: 
5 lessons on wednessdays from 14:00 until 18:00.
- Lesson 1 - 04.05.2016: Introduction to Python and the Notebook interface - Lesson 2 - 11.05.2016: The Python language from scratch - Lesson 3 - 18.05.2016: Advanced data structures (NumPy, Pandas) - Lesson 4 - 25.05.2016: The SERCA experiment: data exploration and processing - Lesson 5 - 01.06.2016: The SERCA experiment: data aggregation and analysis

The course will be held in English.
The course will be interactive: a personal laptop is required. Python is required to be installed on your laptop before attending the course.

How to reach the venue? 
By train 
From the train station take the train to Merano/ Meran and get off at the first stop – Bolzano Sud/ Bozen Süd (5 minutes). Then walk down Via Buozzi / Buozzi Straße for 10-15 minutes.

 By car 
Follow the directions to Bolzano Sud/ Bozen Süd on the SS12. You can park in the underground garage of IDM from the entrance in Via Siemens/ Siemensstr. Or after turning on the corner along the street in Via Pacinotti/ Pacinotti Straße. 
 
By Bus
From Piazza Walther/ Waltherplatz you can take the lines 6 and 111.
Cost of a single ride ticket: €1,50 | Cost of a daily ticket: €3,00 | Tickets only on the bus – automatic machine, coins only.
