ThePontificia Università S. Tommaso d'Aquino in Urbe(Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas), popularly known as “the Angelicum,” is an international center of learning in the historic center of Rome, Italy. The Angelicum’s most distinguished alumnus is Fr. Karol Józef Wojtyła (Pope St. John Paul II). The same classrooms where he studied Theology and defended his doctoral dissertation are still in daily use by our 1,200+ professors and students coming from over 90 countries.The university is run by the Dominicans (Order of Preachers) and has faculties of Theology, Philosophy, Canon Law, and Social Sciences. The foundation of the Angelicum goes back to the XIII century (1265) medieval Dominican house of studies in Rome, where St. Thomas Aquinas taught friars in formation for the Dominican priesthood.While many students are preparing for ordination to the priesthood or for a ministry in the Church, there is a rapidly growing number of lay students. All carry a commitment of dedication and service to the Catholic faith and the Universal Church.Today the Angelicum remains committed to preserving the heritage of St. Thomas Aquinas as a vital force in theological and philosophical scholarship and in the teaching of classical Roman Catholic Theology. As Aquinas did, they fight for faith.  This fight is first and foremost the personal fight that each person conducts in the depths of his heart against the temptations of unbelief. But it also consists, at the ecclesial level, in fostering the encounter between the Word of God and all those who await him in secret. To this end, those who have the mission of defending the Church’s faith must ensure the authentic transmission of Catholic teaching. But they also must make the Word of God comprehensible in a specific cultural context, by denouncing the intellectual structures that hinder the reception of the Word and by building on those that help it. This fight for faith is inseparable from a ‘lifestyle’ : it rejects all forms of violence because it believes in the power of the Truth.The International Dominican Foundation &amp; the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas cordially invite you to join us for the annual Val McInnes Lecture with the chair holder, Fr. Karol Wojtyla defended his dissertation. The Lecture normally would be part of our Angelicum Donor "Homecoming" weekend events but this year due to covid, it is just the on-line address. The rector will offer an intro and the director of development and mission advancement will offer a word at the conclusion.
