The Arcade Project

The Engine Room is a co-working, co-learning, and community space based in Wayfarers Arcade, Southport, and operates as the town’s emerging Civic House.

A Civic House is a shared, everyday institution — a place that brings together work, culture, learning, and social life under one roof. At The Engine Room, this takes the form of public events, seasonal festivals, talks, workshops, music, family activities, and spaces for independent work and collaboration.

Rooted in Southport’s historic arcade, our work focuses on heritage, creativity, and inclusive local participation. We aim to provide a calm, welcoming space for people of different ages and backgrounds to gather, make, learn, and spend time together.

Alongside public events, The Engine Room supports independent workers, creative practitioners, and community organisations, contributing to a more connected and resilient civic life in Southport.
