The DL-Lite Tractable Logics for Knowledge Graphs,
a lecture by Diego Calvanese

About this event

In this lecture, Diego Calvanese surveys the historical foundations that led to the development of the DL-Lite family of logics, discusses its formal semantics and computational properties, presents different lines of research that find their roots in DL-Lite, and finally illustrates how DL-Lite can be profitably exploited for data management through virtual knowledge graphs.

Diego co-authored the paper DL-Lite: Tractable Description Logics for Ontologies, which just got the 2021 Classic Paper award by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) as the most influential paper published in the AAAI 2005 conference. His research focusses now on Artificial intelligence, Description Logics, Knowledge Representation, Data Management at the KRDB Research Centre for Knowledge and Data of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.

Diego is a full professor at the KRDB Research Centre for Knowledge and Data of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy) and a Wallenberg Guest Professor in Artificial Intelligence for Data Management at Umeå University (Sweden). Diego is a Fellow of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI) and a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Diego is the ideator and a co-founder of Ontopic, the first spin-off of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

The talk is part of the World Logic Day 2021 events, co-sponsored by UNESCO. The lecture is scheduled few days after the actual World Logic Day, in order to avoid conflicts with other planned lectures in such an intense day.

The talk will be accessible as a Teams Live Event. Any compatible web browser can be used (latest versions of Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, or Firefox) – no account is needed.

The talk can be attended live or at any later moment: the recording is available for watching immediately after the beginning of the talk. During the live talk session, attendants can ask questions.
