About this event

If you are somebody who identifies as an “overachiever”, somebody sensitive, or with a lot of responsibilities (aka, everyone!), you’re probably very familiar with burnout. You probably also know all the things you should be doing, but rarely actually do because life somehow keeps getting in the way.

You’re really not alone in this. In fact, this is the case for most people until you learn how to make real changes.

Burnout seems to be baked into our society and we will all experience it at some point in our lives. However, it isn’t an individual failing and something you’ve done wrong. It is as much a symptom of the culture we live in and our socialisation as it is you not being able to take care of yourself too.

Meaning, you burning out is not your fault AND there are things you can do to safeguard your wellbeing. While you can’t control the world around you or how you get treated, there are many controllables you can change, so let’s explore what these are.

In this workshop we will explore the roots of burnout (and why it’s not just overworking), some of the physiology behind it, practical ways to get out of the cycle of overgiving, body-based exercises to interrupt the stress cycle, and doable action steps you can take into your life.

This isn’t just another workshop full of platitudes, slides you will never remember let alone actually do, and glib advice about having more baths and “taking care of yourself”.

This workshop will be as much experiential with practical exercises as opposed to more things you will beat yourself up about.

In this workshop, you will:

📍 What burnout is and isn’t, and why it’s not your fault or because you weren’t trying hard enough

📍 What the stress cycle is and why you don’t actually need to “calm down”

📍 Why rest is so important and how we can plan in "micro" rests

📍 Spotting the warning signs of when you are getting close to burnout

📍 Body-based somatic exercises you can practice to not just manage stress, but actually thrive

📍 Taking care of your body foundations-- rest, daylight, hydration, food, movement, play, and connection-- in a way that is doable and easy

I hope you will walk away with::

📍 Knowing better to spot when you’re hitting burnout and how to stop before you hit the floor

📍 More confidence to set boundaries

📍 Practical and most importantly– DOABLE tools you can start doing to take imperfect care of yourself

ABOUT LUCY ROWETT

Lucy isn't sitting on a pedestal of calm and tranquility, preaching the gospel of self care from a place of having mastered it. No, as a highly sensitive person who is prone to perfectionism and overachieving (with a big helping of neurodivergence), she and burnout are old friends, meaning she has had to walk her talk.Originally from the UK, she is a sexologist and intimacy coach who is regularly quoted in the media such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Mashable. She is the resident sex coach for UK contraception platform, The Lowdown, and is an award finalist. In this work, she uses the same tools for helping with burnout as helping people reconnect with their bodies, de-shame, learn what feels good, and have more effective communication in relationships, because the skills are exactly the same.
