Philosophy Colloquium Talk: "Diversity and Its Challenges to Liberalism"
Event Information
About this Event
Domenico Melidoro (Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali "Guido Carli")
Abstract:
Diversity is a fact that marks contemporary societies. The multiplicity of beliefs, interests, identities, doctrines, loyalties, and cultural practices are simply out there, independent of our will, attitude, and conduct. It is almost a cliché that liberalism is incapable of facing the challenges that diversity poses to the stability and to the maintenance of the social order. However, this presentation will contend, liberalism has the resources to deal with diversity and can give an answer to the troubles posed by pluralism.
