Description

In this visit we will take a tour of the most representative artistic expression of the 20th century in Mexico, although it is a way of narrating the facts and ideologies of the time worldwide and of expressing a social criticism that has remained in the same buildings for decades. The palaces of Mexico City and other parts of the world are upholstered with mural paintings, thus reviving an artistic style of the Mesoamerican civilizations that was rediscovered with the archaeological works of the 20th century.

We will get to know the main works of Diego Rivera, one of the most renowned muralists, the main promoter of the movement. He is also known for having been a disciple of Pablo Picasso andhusband of the famous painter Frida Kahlo. We will pass through some of the buildings that contain these works, such as the National Palace, Bellas Artes Palace and the Mural Museum.

José Clemente Orozco is recognized for creating an unmistakable figure in Mexican iconography: the “Catrina” skull, one of the symbols of the Day of the Dead. He is also the author of the work considered the “Sistine Chapel” of muralism. The places with murals by Orozco that we will access are Bellas Artes Palace, the University of Guadalajara and San Ildefonso.

Passing through places such as the Chapultepec Castle and the University of Mexico, we will be able to see the main works of David Alfaro Siqueiros, who based their murals on revolutionary themes and advances in human thought.

With the access to this tour we will better understand this artistic movement and we will see why it is an unmissable part when touring the most emblematic buildings in Mexico. We will also see the influence that these painters have had on many other artists around the world.
