About this Event
"Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Area: new geographies, new alliances": web talk organized by WEC Italy and OME. 16 February 2021 from 14.30 CET timGiven its geographic position, the Mediterranean region represents a bridge between Europe and Africa and can play a key role in the energy transition process of the Area. In addiction the existing energy interconnections between the countries of the North and South of the Mediterranean represents an important opportunity for the future energy landscape of the region.
The World Energy Council's Mediterranean Energy Trilemma provides the opportunity to compare and contrast the energy policy performance of differing countries of the Area. Examining the three dimensions of the energy performance – security, equity and sustainability – enables to assess the development of country and regional-specific challenges. The aggregated results of the Mediterranean Trilemma illustrate some of the shared themes and issues within this geographic region but there is also scope to group the countries differently, around cultural clusters or international alliances, to explore new insights into comparative energy policy performance and energy transition.
Starting from the results of the World Energy Trilemma, with particular reference to the countries of the Mediterranean and their Trilemma Energy Balances, WEC Italy (the Italian Committee of the World Energy Council) in collaboration with the WEC Secretariat, the WEC National Committees of the Mediterranean and the Observatoire Mediterranéen de l'Energie (OME), and in partnership with Edison, organizes a web talk with the aim of strengthening the dialogue between the Mediterranean and European communities on the energy transition process undergoing in the Area.
The web talk will be attended by important guests, including Angela Wilkinson (WEC Secretary General), Marco Margheri (WEC Italy Chairman), Stefano Besseghini (ARERA Chairman), Stefano Grassi (Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson Head of Cabinet), Luca Sabbatucci (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General), Lapo Pistelli (OME Chairman), Martin Young (WEC Senior Director), Houda Ben Jannet Allal (OME Director General), Rachid Ben Daly (Tunisian Ministry of Industry Energy and Mines General Director), Mohamed Ghazali (Président du Comté Marocain du CME, Secrétaire Général; Maroccan Ministère de l’Energie, des Mines et du Développement Durable), Ouidad Hamrour (Directrice de la Compagnie de l’Engineering de l’Electricité et du Gaz, SONELGAZ, Algeria) Sorina Mortada (WEC Lebanon Technical Consultant), Fabrizio Mattana (Edison Executive Vice President Gas Asset), Maria Rita Galli (DESFA CEO), and Angelo Ferrante (Med TSO Secretary General and Terna Head of European Affairs).
The web talk "Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Area: new geographies, new alliances" represents a further step in the in-depth process on the Euro-Mediterranean transition started by WEC Italy since the World Energy Week Milan 2018, the World Energy Congress Abu Dhabi 2019 and the World Energy Week 2020, with meetings and opportunities for debate with main stakeholders involved in the process.
