Codemotion Tech Pills at TomTom - Things everywhere: a journey in the IoT w...
Wed, March 29, 2017, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM CEST
With the Internet of Things we are transforming the world that surrounds us into a giant robot (or better, a network of robots) which will support us in all aspects of our mundane activities, either in the privacy of our homes or in intricate public environments such as the Port of Rotterdam.
Tonight we'll explore how IoT solutions are actually contributing to change the way we interact with the things around us (pun intended).
- 18:00 Doors open / pizza time / networking
- 19:00 Frehun Adefris Demissie: AI, IoT and gamification in logistics based on the Port of Rotterdam case
- 20:00 Freek van Gol, Aemro Amare: Bigdata Analytics and our IoT Gateway: Toon
- 21:00 Beers / networking
We are happy to thank our sponsor Tomtom for the beautiful venue in De Ruijterkade, right next to the Amsterdam Centraal Station.
Frehun Adefris Demissie - Lead Big Data & IoT Architect at LINKIT
I started my profession with a two years teaching and research experience in a university. Then I advanced my career as an engineer in which i conducted a number of analytical research projects in healthcare, oil & gas, maritime, electronics, pharmaceuticals, automotive, IT & IoT and other service, manufacturing and process industries.
My goals are to work in a challenging working environment where mathematical modeling and simulation are used for design, analysis, and optimization of businesses, products, and processes.
Aemro Amare - Sr. Developer / Scrum master at Quby
I studied masters in Computer Science from The Free University of Amsterdam. I have worked as Lecturer and researcher for four years. I did some applied researches on ICT4D related fields. Since 2012 I work as software Engineer on developing backend solutions for home automation, home security, smart thermostat products.
Currently I am working as senior software engineers, mainly designing and developing cloud based big data pipelines, nearly real-time data processing and batch processing algorithms using timeseries and event-based data collected from connected devices in more than three hundred thousand households.
My passion is designing and implementing highly scalable solutions in the areas of smart home and smart energy. I love when solutions are designed with the principle of Keep it Simple, Stupid.
Freek Van Gool - Platform Architect at Quby
I love challenges and operating outside my comfort zone: outside the comfort zone is where the magic happens. I started my career as a java developer and grew from nitwit to senior to software architect. In all my positions I challenged the status quo and challenged myself and others to reach further and become better. I love the way technology shapes tomorrow and how it impacts all people. The last years I’ve focused on blending business, technology and people to unleash its potential and get to remarkable results. I believe technology innovation is an unstoppable force which should be shared with as many people as possible. Together we can shape a better future.
Motto: less is more & maximize impact
At Quby I’ve performed the role of platform architect for over a year. In that period I helped shape, refine the cloud based platform. I guided 2 development teams, the infra team and the big data team. As Architect of a special devops team, I helped Quby to move the private data center to the public cloud (AWS).
