EMPOWERING CODAS AROUND THE WORLD (Interpreters and non interpreters)

Take this psychological, spiritual, and creative journey that will guide you to explore your Coda Parts and develop your roadmap to success!

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

The Field of Mental Health has long recognized that individuals have many roles in their life and often feel pulled and in conflict between these various ‘parts’ of themselves (masculine/feminine; mother/wife; mother/worker, to name a few). For Codas, growing up in two worlds, Deaf and Hearing, mediating and bridging these two worlds can exacerbate the stress and lead to burnout in their work (ie: as Professional Interpreters).
Sheila will demonstrate how the “Coda Parts” model explains our bicultural identities in our Communities of Deaf, Hearing and Coda. Sheila will use didactic, interactive, role play. drawing and group techniques to assist each participant to identify their own Deaf/Hearing/Coda parts, and how Codas can become more empowered by developing an internal ‘Coda Manager’ to navigate the “land of in- between”

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the Workshop Codas will:

1) Identify the balance/imbalance of their own Deaf/Hearing/Coda parts.
2) Identify how these “Parts” affect their work lives at home, school and work both positively and negatively (ie: as interpreter).
3) Use Coda Parts ‘tool kit’ and road map to develop an internal “Coda Manager” plan to guide them through their 3(+) parts, to enhance their professional roles in all working fields but also as Interpreters.

WHY ATTEND?

To understand your deaf part and hearing part and how it impacts your everyday life.

To strengthen and deepen your use and understanding of Coda Parts.

To heal your inner Coda child with a therapist who specializes in Coda issues.

To soothe yourself if you feel stuck, anxious, depressed, lonely, numb, irritable, stressed, unable to make decisions, easily swayed, unable to find your ‘center’, or feeling caught in the middle of everything.

Coda Parts model will assist you with challenges that need ‘fresh eyes’ to help clarify your strategy for success:

- In your relationships

- In your career and school decisions (ie: interpreters)

- In negotiating with your deaf, hearing, and Coda family members

- As a Coda interpreter with challenging assignments and/or internal conflicts
