About this Event
Krabat (Krabat and the Legend of the Satanic Mill) | 2008 | Fantasy | 120 min | German, English subtitles
The year is 1646. In a land made desolate by war and disease, Krabat, a fourteen-year-old orphan, is struggling to survive. One night, he hears a strange voice in a dream. Following its instructions, he leaves the shack where he has temporarily taken shelter and makes his way to a mysterious mill. There, the miller offers him room and board if he agrees to become an apprentice. Welcoming the relief from cold and hunger, Krabat enthusiastically accepts. Working alongside the eleven other young men who live at the mill, Krabat begins to suspect that they are withholding a mysterious secret…
The film is based on the novel Krabat by Otfried Preußler, one of the most beloved German childrens’ books authors (who also wrote e.g. The robber Hotzenplotz and The little witch). The story is inspired by the Sorbian folklore character Krabat, who over time developed from an evil sorcerer into a folk hero and beneficial trickster in the course of the 19th century.
The film will be shown in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Mailand. If you are planning to eat or drink something at the clubhouse before, please reserve a table at 0332/789000. And of course, please bring your face mask and be on time (we will start at 20:00 sharp).
