🚀 BIO
山崎 直子, Yamazaki Naoko is a Japanese engineer and former JAXA astronaut.
She was the second Japanese woman to fly in space.
After getting both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Tokyo (1996), she joined the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) and was part of the development team for the system integration of the Japanese Experiment Module.
Later on, in 1999, Yamazaki was selected as an astronaut candidate by the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA, now JAXA) and in 2004 she was assigned to the Astronaut Office Robotics Branch in Texas.
On April 5, 2010, Yamazaki entered space on the shuttle Discovery as part of mission STS-131. She returned to Earth on April 20, 2010, after spending a total of 15.12 days in space.
Naoko now actively promotes STEM activities in Japan and abroad as an adviser to the Young Astronaut Club and Chairman of the Women in Aerospace program of the Japan Rocket Society.
🚀 ABSTRACT
The webinar will allow the guests to engage with a former astronaut for the first time ever through an online private event.
Naoko will be giving us all the details of her life and success: from being an engineering student just like us to becoming the second woman to fly in space. She will not only inspire us through her story, but give us an insight into the hard journey of becoming an astronaut.
The webinar will be divided into 2 parts
- Naoko speech 20-30 min
- Q&A session - you are allowed to open the mic and webcam and interact with her
