Durante la conferenza verranno presentati il contenuto e il lavoro di ricerca e restauro sul Papiro dei Re, frutto di una triangolazione tra Torino, Copenaghen e Berlino.

Il Papiro dei Re è l'unico vero elenco, oltre al manoscritto di Manetone, che include i nomi di sovrani altrimenti sconosciuti. Fu acquistato dal console B. Drovetti attorno al 1820, e fu visto e descritto per la prima volta da J.F. Champollion nel 1824. Nell’arco di 200 anni, grazie agli sforzi di diversi studiosi, è stato possibile unire la maggior parte dei circa 300 frammenti. L’ultimo restauro risaliva al 1930 ed era stato condotto da H. Ibscher (Berlino) ed E. Caudana (Torino), che avevano riposizionato i frammenti fissandoli con sottili strisce di seta.

In occasione del 200° anniversario della decifrazione dei geroglifici, il papiro è stato completamente restaurato nel 2022 da M. Krutzsch (Berlino).

Il progetto di restauro ha seguito la nuova ricostruzione elaborata da K. Ryholt (Copenaghen), che negli ultimi anni si è dedicato allo studio del papiro. Ha aggiunto più di venti frammenti che non erano inclusi nelle precedenti edizioni e ne ha riorganizzato molti altri che erano stati collocati in posizioni risultate ora erronee.

Grazie alla cooperazione fra Torino - Berlino - Copenaghen è ora possibile presentare al pubblico la cosiddetta “Lista dei Re di Torino” restaurata e riordinata, consentendo così nuovi studi del testo.

During the lecture will be presented the research and restoration work that was carried out on the "Turin King List" , the result of months of work by a team coming from Turin, Copenhagen and Berlin.

The manuscript, being the only true king list apart from Manetho which includes many kings who are otherwise unknown, was purchased by the consul B. Drovetti around 1820, and was seen and described for the first time by F. Champollion in 1824. Over the last 200 years, thanks to the efforts of numerous scholars, it was possible to combine most of the approximately 300 fragments. The last restoration took place in 1930 by H. Ibscher (Berlin) and E. Caudana (Turin), who cleaned and repositioned the fragments with thin strips of silk.

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the deciphering of the hieroglyphs, the papyrus was completely restored in 2022 by M. Krutzsch (Berlin).

The restoration project followed the new reconstruction developed by K. Ryholt (Copenhagen), who in recent years has devoted himself to the study of manuscript. He added numerous fragments that were not included in previous editions and rearranged many other fragments that were included but in their wrong positions. Some needed minor adjustments, while other fragments needed to be moved to an entirely new location.

As a result, the Triangle cooperation Turin - Berlin - Copenhagen presents the so-called “Turin King List” cleaned and rearranged, and thereby enabling new studies of the text.
