Informazioni sull'evento

A special free guided tour by the curator Dr. Giovanni Magno of the Pathological Anatomy section of the Morgagni Museum.

The Pathological Anatomy section of the Morgagni Museum of Human Anatomy of the University of Padua exhibits precious human specimens, offering the public a journey through the diseases that have characterized humankind from the past to the present day. Giovanni Battista Morgagni (1682-1771) was the first to correlate the symptom of the patient in life with the lesions of the organs observable in the corpse. By systematically studying the anatomical causes of diseases during his period in Padua, Morgagni managed to formulate an initial classification of pathologies. Today, thanks to increasingly precise instruments, it is possible to diagnose pathologies up to the molecular level.

The Morgagni Museum preserves today over 1300 pathological specimens with various preservation techniques: dry, in liquid and via tannization, an artificial mummification created by Lodovico Brunetti (1813-1899), founder of the first museum of pathological anatomy of the University of Padua. The collections, often represented by unique specimens, are an important evidence of the past living conditions and ancient pathologies that affected humankind between the eighteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, providing also an insight of the progress in the medical field in the prevention and treatment of diseases.

The visit is not recommended for children under 16 years of age, pregnant women and particularly sensitive people.

Photographs and videos are not permitted inside the museum.
