ENCI HUANG. CURTAIN
Curtain è una sorprendente serie fotografica di moda, realizzata da una donna cinese che utilizza la metafora del corpo come punto focale di una sessualità veicolata attraverso selfie intimi e rivelatori. L’approccio narrativo apre nuove strade al genere della fotografia di moda, intrecciando la narrazione visiva al commento sociale. L’intenzione di Enci Huang è quella di documentare meticolosamente l’intero progetto attraverso la fotografia e il video, approfondendo temi provocatori e sfidando le norme sociali che circondano la sessualità. Inizialmente, le figure velate tra le tende simboleggiano un senso di comfort e introspezione, per poi lasciare gradualmente spazio a una rappresentazione più rivelatrice del corpo, simbolo di un viaggio verso la chiarezza e l’accettazione. Il progetto è profondamente radicato nel contesto culturale della Cina, dove le discussioni sulla sessualità sono state a lungo avvolte da tabù e pudore. Attraverso il suo lavoro, l’autrice cerca di affrontare e smantellare queste barriere sociali, sollecitando un dialogo più aperto sull’argomento.
Il progetto Curtain è stato premiato con la ITS Special Mention powered by Fondazione Sozzani per la rappresentazione molto naturale della sessualità e della femminilità. Le immagini riflettono il corpo delle donne in modo intimo, rispettandone le forme e i movimenti. Si tratta di una narrazione fotografica su una prospettiva culturale del corpo, della sessualità e della bellezza, vista attraverso gli occhi del popolo cinese. Sfogliando le pagine della serie di Enci Huang è possibile entrare in contatto con i sentimenti, i desideri, le paure e la solitudine delle giovani generazioni cinesi. Fotografando i corpi nudi, Enci invita la società ad affrontare questo tema, mostrando loro la bellezza, l’eleganza, la fragilità e la poesia del corpo femminile.

Curtain is a striking series of fashion photography, authored by a Chinese woman who employs the metaphor of the body as a focal point of sexuality, conveyed through intimate selfie nudes. This narrative-driven approach opens up new paths for the genre of fashion photography, intertwining visual storytelling with societal commentary.
Enci Huang’s intention is to meticulously document the entire project through photography and video, delving into provocative themes and challenging societal norms surrounding sexuality. Initially, the veiled figures amidst curtains symbolize a sense of comfort and introspection, gradually giving way to a more revealing portrayal of the body, symbolizing a journey towards clarity and acceptance.
The project is deeply rooted in the cultural context of China, where discussions on sexuality have long been shrouded in taboo and modesty. Through her work, the author seeks to confront and dismantle these societal barriers, urging for a more open dialogue on the subject.
The project Curtain was awareded with ITS Special Mention powered by Fondazione Sozzani for its very natural depiction of sexuality and femininity. The images reflect women’s bodies in an intimate way respecting their shapes and movements. This is a photographic narrative on a cultural perspective of body, sexuality, beauty, seen through the eyes of the Chinese people. Flipping through the pages of Enci Huang’s series one can connect with the feelings, desires, fears and loneliness of younger generations in China. By shooting nudes Enci is calling on her own society to face this topic, by showing them the beauty, the elegance, the fragility and the poetry of the female body.
