Bamboo Weaving:
It is said that Chinese ancestors began to use bamboo items in their lives about 7,000 years ago. Bamboo weaving items (baskets, tools, kitchen utensils, furniture, handiwork and so on) played an important part in people’s daily life in South China and it’s harder to find such items now because they are being replaced by cheaper plastic products from assembly lines. Traditional bamboo weaving industry is therefore fading away.
Qingshen County, in southwestern China's Sichuan Province, is commonly referred to as the "hometown of the art of bamboo weaving." The manufacturing of bamboo products in Qingshen dates back 2,000 years ago. Local craftsmen for centuries have mastered the skills to make various bamboo-woven products, be they items commonly used in people's daily lives or framed artistic pictures. In 2008, China's Ministry of Culture included the bamboo weaving unique to Qingshen on the list of the nation's intangible cultural heritage.
