The Big Day

Day 2 - June 21st

After breakfast , it’s time to discover Rome and its beauties. Meet your local official guide for an orientation tour of the Ethernal city. There are no doubts that Rome is one of the richest cities in the world in terms of water and fountains. This was already a characteristic typical of Ancient Rome, when 11 aqueducts provided the city with thousands of liters of water every day, water that permitted the functioning of the sumptuous thermal baths and of the many fountains. The sack of the Goths and the consequent cut of the water supplies ended this grandeur. It was only at the end of the XVI century that the Popes confronted the problem of the water supply appropriately. Since then Rome has been embellished with dozens of imposing fountains, that aimed to celebrate the Popes’ munificence, and that were often flanked by drinking troughs and public basins, both built for a more practical purpose.

The walk that we suggest includes 5 of the most beautiful fountains, starting from the imposing Fountain of the Naiadi built to embellish Piazza della Repubblica: this is where our itinerary begins. The walk unfolds along the streets of this elegant area, stopping to admire works of art such as the Trevi Fountain, the Fountain of Moses, and the Tritone Fountain, to end with Bernini’s masterpiece: the Barcaccia.

Rest of the day on your own
