Fablab Torino presents:

A Day in Kicad workshop with Kliment Yanev

February 2018 marks 6 years since the opening of FablabTO! We want to celebrate with a very special workshop, held by an even more special teacher!

With the help of Kliment Yanev you will learn to design, build, customize and program your own PCB board from scratch!

The workshop will be tought in English.
All-day formula with 1 hour of lunch break.

Only 10 spots available! Buy your ticket before 15/1 to get a 10% Early Bird discount.

Meet the teacher:

Kliment Yanev is an electronics and robotics developer with extensive experience in the field of open source 3D printing and open hardware. He does custom electronics development, taking projects from idea to prototype (ask if you need something made). Open source work in the field of 3d printing (electronics, software and mechanical work) and medical hardware. For more info, contact Kliment via IRC on the Freenode network or email at kliment@0xfb.com

The Workshop:

We're going to go from a schematic to a PCB layout, and then manufacture the PCB board and a reflow soldering stencil to go with it. We'll then assemble the board, program and test it.

This is a workshop designed to demystify the process of making a PCB from a schematic and take your fear out of it. We will start with a pre-prepared schematic and use Kicad to turn it into a PCB layout.
We
will then use the toner transfer method and reusable Cupric Chloride etchant to manufacture a circuit board and a stencil you can use for reflow soldering.

The board we will be building is a USB microcontroller breakout board.
The default program on it will make it shine some lights and pretend to be a computer mouse. We will first review the schematic and then move on to layout.
Each one of the participants will layout their own board, with help
and advise from the teacher.
After that, we will go over prototyping circuit boards using
the toner transfer and contact etch method, and each participant will manufacture a PCB with the layout they just made.
Using the same method,
we will manufacture a stencil for reflow soldering. After tin-plating the circuit boards, we will then apply solder paste using the stencil we made, and solder the components onto the board, program and test it.

Requirements for participants: Laptop with Kicad 4.0.7 installed and an external mouse.
